Take time to talk at family mealtimes

Today kids are so consumed with extracurricular activities that it can be nearly impossible to sit down at the dinner table.

As a high school senior I know how tough it is to find time to sit down and eat dinner with my family. This doesn't mean that I don't want to be with my family; it's far from that!

I'm involved in my high school girls' hockey club, Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, and I hold a part-time job. In the Daily Herald, the story "AP Poll: Family dinner survives, with distractions" they talked about all the extra stuff that people now to on top of just eating.

I agree that these distractions, such as the television and especially the hot trend of text messages, are not needed when I'm eating dinner the one day that I may get with my parents.

We should all take the 30 minutes it may take to eat and talk about how our day was with the ones who care.
