UAL: ExpressJet to operate 22 regional jets
United Airlines' parent UAL Corp. said ExpressJet Holdings Inc. will operate 22 regional jets under the United Express brand starting May 1.
ExpressJet Airlines will replace another carrier whose contract for the flights expired, Chicago-based United said today in a statement.
Details of the contract weren't disclosed. Fifty-seat Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft will be used for the flights, United said. UAL climbed 20 cents, or 2.7 percent, to $7.45 at 9:25 a.m. in Nasdaq Stock Market trading in New York.
ExpressJet, based in Houston, flies for Continental Airlines Inc. and operates charter flights. ExpressJet rose 39 cents, or 15 percent, to $2.95 at 9:02 a.m. before the start of New York Stock Exchange trading. The shares have climbed 51 percent this year.
