Seniors don't get it for free

I have read and watched the debate on health care closely. It appears that a family of four pays on average $14,000 annually for a decent policy, or about $3,500 per person. My children, and I am sure many others, believe that seniors pay nothing for their health care. I am 69 and my husband is 70. Our health care costs escalate with age. I currently pay $4,114.80 annually for Medicare, a supplement plan and drug coverage. My husband pays $3,958.80 for the similar coverage. The major difference is he has a lower cost drug coverage program as he takes no medications.

Medicare is a very well run program and works as well as any health care program we had during our working years. The transfer from a private insurer to Medicare was seamless.

Just remember, seniors are not taking a free ride, we are paying premiums the same as others who are fortunate enough to have health insurance.
