Carpentersville trio charged in BB gun robbery

Three Carpentersville teens face felony robbery charges after holding up a 15-year-old boy with BB guns, police said Wednesday.

Dimetrius Braswell, 17, and Quentin Braswell, 19, both of the 2000 block of Cherokee Road, were being held in the Kane County jail on charges of robbery and aggravated robbery, police said. A 14-year-old boy also was charged with the same offenses but isn't being identified because he is a juvenile.

Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Tim Bosshart said the trio approached the victim Tuesday on the 100 block of Besinger Drive and "demanded money and everything in his pockets" while showing a hand gun.

After turning over $65 and an iPod, the victim ran home and told his mother, who called police with a description of the suspects.

Bosshart said the robbers were located a short time later in the area of Evergreen and Robin roads, where police found them with the victim's stolen property and two BB guns. There were no other known victims, he said.

On Wednesday, a judge set bond at $40,000 for Quentin Braswell and $30,000 for his younger brother, both of whom return to court Nov. 24. The third suspect is being referred to juvenile court.

Neither Braswell appears to have prior criminal histories in Kane County, court records show. If convicted of aggravated robbery, a Class 1 felony, they could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
