Why raise taxes in this recession?

In the middle of one of the most severe recessions in recent times, the taxing authorities are increasing property taxes aggressively. As a long time resident of Palatine, the taxes on my home are being increased by 9 percent in one year. At any time, a 9 percent increase is big, but during an economic contraction a 9 percent increase is huge.

How responsible is it to aggressively raise taxes when so many people are struggling just to get by? Perhaps your organization can figure out what is driving the excessive public spending that is forcing our property tax to increase so dramatically.
