Barrington conservation group announces new leadership

The Barrington Area Conservation Trust is pleased to announce that three new Trustees have joined the organization. Each new Trustee is a valued member of the Barrington area community and brings specific skills to his or her new position on the board.

The new Trustees are: Jan Nestrud, Louise Flannery, and Loren E. Ekstrom. They join the current board, which consists of: Mary Bradford-White (president), Elizabeth C. Bramsen, Lorraine H. Briggs, Judy Freeman, Richard G. Maddrell, Stevenson Mountsier, David F. Nelson, Glenn W. Reed, and Jo Seagren.

The Trust also announces that after ten years of serving the Barrington Area Conservation Trust, current Board President and founder Mary Bradford-White will be stepping into the role of Immediate Past President as of January 1, 2010. David F. Nelson will serve for one year as interim president as a new long-term president is sought. Bradford-White will remain on the Board of Trustees.

"We are building this organization and this Board for long-term sustainability," said Bradford-White. "Over the past two years, we have expanded our Board to include a wonderful complement of very talented individuals who bring a passion and a commitment to protecting the land here in the Barrington area. I am pleased to be able to offer my continued support to the organization as I step into the role as Immediate Past President."

The mission of the Barrington Area Conservation Trust is to preserve the open space, rural character, and scenic, historic, recreational, and natural resources of the Barrington, Illinois-area communities through advocacy, education, and the promotion of responsible land stewardship. BACTrust focuses on private land protection by working with landowners to provide tools for private land protection, primarily through conservation easements. We work with municipalities and local governments to help with planning and zoning issues; and we work with the legal and banking communities to educate them about conservation tools and tax laws.
