Corron Road down to 1 lane:

Beginning Wednesday, weather-permitting, the Kane County Transportation Department will conduct a geotechnical investigation on Corron Road, north of Burlington Road, in anticipation of bridge replacement. The work will require a single lane closure and minor delays are expected. Flaggers will direct traffic, and the work should take at least three days. For details, (630) 584-1170.

Veterans Day concert:

The free Veterans Celebra­tion Concert is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles North High School, 255 Red Gate Road. The St. Charles North wind ensemble, wind symphony and varsity band will play. Tickets are limited. To register, visit veteranscelebration.eventbrite.com or call (630) 445-1704.

NIU open house:

Northern Illinois University will hold an open house for prospective students, families and friends from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Holmes Student Center, at Lucinda Avenue and Normal Road. Visitors to the DeKalb campus will have an opportunity to meet faculty and representatives from academic departments, admissions, student services and financial aid. Open house activities include a campus bus tour, residence hall visits and a university information fair. 'Fall into Christmas':

Debra Phillips, owner of Scentimental Gardens in Geneva, is opening her 1850s cottage home in Wayne for an exclusive tour from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday. Attendees should meet at the shop, 428 W. State St., and transportation will be provided to and from her home, beginning at 1 p.m. Several trips will be made. Her home will be decorated in the "splendor of the autumn" season. Guests will be transported back to the shop, which will be adorned with Christmas decor. Refreshments and a special store discount will be provided for attendees. Fee is $12. Hispanic board seek members:

Aurora's Hispanic Heritage Board is seeking six new members to help serve as a bridge between the Hispanic community and other portions of the city. The board meets at 9 a.m. the second Monday of the month at city hall, 44 E. Downer Place. The nonpartisan board is funded by the city and members are appointed by the mayor. Their purpose is to educate the public about the history of Hispanics who helped shape Aurora and instill pride in Hispanic heritage. Contact Chairman Cynthia Hernandez at (630) 768-2027.
