Teen pedestrian struck, killed by car in Elgin

Police were interviewing witnesses late Sunday after a 17-year-old boy was struck and killed by a car in Elgin.

Deputy Chief Jeff Swoboda said the boy was on foot when he was hit by the vehicle about 4 p.m. on the 200 block of Center Street.

He was pronounced dead at Sherman Hospital.

Police were releasing few details, including the boy's identity. Swoboda said there were several witnesses, and police were in the process of interviewing them.

"We are continuing the investigation," he said Sunday night.

Kane County coroner's officials could not immediately be reached.
