3 minor injuries in Batavia factory fire
A smoldering fire in a powder-packaging machine and a ventilation system injured three workers Monday morning in Batavia, fire officials said.
Firefighters were called at 8:23 a.m. to Power Packaging, 1200 N. Raddant Road. A machine was smoking, and they found smoldering embers throughout a ventilation system and hopper for that machine. They had to dismantle the machine and ventilation system to extinguish the embers.
A buildup of powder in the ventilation system caused the fire, according to Battalion Chief Randy Baker.
The Power Packaging employees were treated at the scene for inhalation injuries.
Damage to the machine and ventilation system was estimated at $20,000.
