Loyola's Chapman named men's basketball assistant

Lou Chapman was promoted to assistant men's basketball coach by Loyola head coach Jim Whitesell on Monday.

Whitesell also announced the program was adding Adam DeMong, a former Glenbard West prep star, to take over Chapman's former duties as coordinator of basketball operations.

Chapman, who worked as coordinator of basketball operations at Loyola University Chicago since June, replaces former assistant Bill Comar.

An experienced coach, Chapman helped Wisconsin-Whitewater to a 23-6 overall record in 2008-09, while his efforts also helped mold guard Myles McKay into a Second Team All-America selection by D3hoops.com.

In addition to his work at Whitewater, Chapman, who has extensive ties to the Milwaukee area, has also served as both a head coach and assistant coach at the high school level and was the head coach for Athletes For Youth club team, which he steered to a 14-0 record.

Chapman began his collegiate playing career at Colby Community College before migrating to UNC-Wilmington, where he played for current DePaul head coach Jerry Wainwright. After one season at Wilmington, Chapman transferred to Missouri Western State University, where he completed his career in 2003.

DeMong played basketball at Boston College. The Glen Ellyn native and Glenbard West High School alum moved to Ohio University as a graduate assistant and eventually was elevated to the post of assistant coach. He recently served as an assistant coach at St. Patrick's High School in Chicago and also has worked at Joy of the Game in Deerfield.

During his tenure at Boston College, the Eagles posted a 66-19 overall record and made two NCAA Tournament appearances as well as earned a berth in the 2003 NIT.
