Resettlement in St. Charles lovely
Living is West Chicago and working in St. Charles at a local typesetting company ended with my daughter marrying a local man and my wife, two boys and I returning to Connecticut. The year was about 1975.
In 2009, 35 years later, my wife and I, with encouragement from our daughter, returned and took up residence at Hunt Club Village. It has been a very enjoyable experience in our retiring years. Hunt Club Village has far exceeded our expectations, and St. Charles in our one-year return has also been a great experience. The park system between where we live and the Fox River is used daily and I try to walk 10-15 miles each week. My wife goes with me but not all the time. The parks are clean and well kept.
Being from New England, where friendliness seems to come a little harder, we find Midwest folks in St. Charles to be friendly and interesting. Our walks always include conversations with people we meet. The stores, banks, post office, service garage are all within five to 10 minutes drive, with most people very friendly and helpful. Our experience with the town office and police (always a wave as we walk) is that they go out of their way to help.
Delnor Hospital, 15 minutes from our home, met all my needs during a nine-day stay, with good service from all.
And, finally, our hearts fell in love with Christ Community Church and their involvement in the community of St. Charles.
So thanks to all for our first year of settlement here in St. Charles. As I become involved in a mentoring program with St. Charles schools, I trust I can give some help back.
