Pay Gail Borden library fines with food
Procrastinators late to the library with books, DVDs and CDs and owing overdue fines can turn their predicament into a positive by paying in canned food to help those less fortunate.
Gail Borden Library's Food for Fines program will take place Nov. 1-14. For every can of food brought in, $1 of overdue fines is cleared. Only overdue fines will be waived, not charges for lost material. Library staff ask that customers not bring in cans of soda or other beverages.
The cans of food will help fill pantry shelves at the Salvation Army and the Community Crisis Center.
Cans of food are being accepted at the main library, 270 N. Grove Ave., and at the Rakow Branch, 2751 W. Bowes Road.
