Recycle-O-Rama
The 2nd annual Recycle-O-Rama will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Warren-Newport Library on O'Plaine Road just north of Washington Street in Gurnee. Co-sponsored by the library and the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County, the free event gives families a chance to learn about recycling and to dispose of items they can't put in their recycling bins. Eye glasses, cell phones, ink jet cartridges, beads, buttons, keys, unusable CDs and DVDs, wine corks, Nabisco cookie wrappers, plastic bags and film/wrap, and gym shoes will be accepted. A swap table for books, DVDs and music CDs as well as free goodies and prizes will be available. Special displays, activities for kids and information on composting, rain barrels and sustainable activities will be featured. Visit swalco.org.
Quilt show
The Northern Lake County Quilters Guild will host a quilt show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, and Sunday, Nov. 8. The event at the Cultural & Civic Center of Round Lake Beach will feature more than 200 quilts including bed and wall varieties, how-to demonstrations, a gift boutique, antique quilt turning and more. Admission is $5. The center is at 2007 Civic Center Way, behind the Regal Cinemas and Home Depot. Visit nlcqg.org.
Fox River Preserve comment sought
The Lake County Forest Preserve District is seeking public input on a preliminary concept plan to guide recreation improvements and natural resource restoration activities on 312 acres recently added to the Fox River Preserve in Port Barrington. The public is invited to review and discuss the plan at a planning open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Lake Barrington village hall, 23860 N. Old Barrington Road. Staff will gather feedback on the concept plan and answer questions about the preserve. Those unable to attend can view the plan at LCFPD.org/fpplan.
