Naperville's Lysacek now No. 3 in world rankings

Evan Lysacek, the Naperville native and 2009 World Champion in men's figure skating, has moved up to No. 3 in the icenetwork.com world rankings after taking the silver medal at the Cup of China last week.

Lysacek's next competition in preparation for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in February is Nov. 12-15 at Skate America in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Nobunari Oda captured gold at the Cup of China and rose to No. 2 in the rankings behind Canada's Patrick Chan. Lysacek captured the silver skating to "Sheherazade" and it marked the ninth consecutive time he has medaled at a Grand Prix event.

Russia's Sergei Voronov took the bronze in Beijing and rose one spot to No. 9.

Japan's Akiko Suzuki won the gold medal in women's figure skating at the Cup of China and jumped nine spots to No. 7.

In pairs, two-time Olympic bronze medalists Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao returned to competition for the first time in more than 2 1/2 years and grabbed the gold. Algonquin's Rockne Brubaker, with partner Keauna McLaughlin, is ninth in the overall rankings.

In ice dancing, Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto easily won the gold at the Cup of China to move up to sixth in the rankings.
