C'ville boy injured after being hit by car while walking home from school

A boy walking home from Sunny Hill Elementary School in Carpentersville was injured slightly after being hit by a car Tuesday afternoon, police officials said.

The boy was crossing a side street in the 2500 block of Helm Road at about 3:30 p.m. in front of a car that was stopped at a stop sign when the car was rear-ended by a second car - driven by a 17-year-old woman.

The force of the collision pushed the stopped vehicle forward, hitting the child, police said.

Officials said the boy hit the windshield of the first car, then rolled off the car onto the pavement. The child was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin with no life-threatening injuries. His age was not released

The female driver of the second vehicle was also taken to Sherman with no life-threatening injuries, while the adult driver in the first, stopped car was treated and released at the scene.

Police cited the 17-year-old, Siena Romano of Wayne, for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Police did not expect further citations or charges in the case.
