Car keys dispute leads to arrests at Rutland Twp. party
Three Rutland Township partygoers were arrested over the weekend after a dispute over car keys turned violent, police said Tuesday.
Kane County sheriff's deputies responded shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday to a reported disturbance on the 1200 block of Promontory Drive near Pingree Grove. When officers arrived, they were confronted by a "highly intoxicated" resident later identified as Alica M. Mosier, 22, who police said was upset because her sister refused to give her the keys to her car.
Police said the incident got out of hand when another patrygoer, 21-year-old Shannon T. Gibbons of Bartlett, became belligerent, waved her arms and hands in a police officer's face and shoved the officer's chest.
As Gibbons was being handcuffed, police said, Mosier also became belligerent and was arrested, at which time a third person identified as Scott G. Johnson, 28, of Geneva, took an "aggressive stance" and tried to interfere. He was arrested, too.
All three suspects were taken to the Kane County jail, where they continued to be combative; Mosier was placed in restraints, according to a police report.
Armstrong, Gibbons and Mosier each were charged with criminal damage to property and obstructing a peace officer. Gibbons also was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault and mob action, while additional charges of mob action and domestic battery were filed against Mosier.
Johnson is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 3, and Gibbons and Mosier on Nov. 12. Neither Gibbons nor Mosier had attorneys listed in court records. Johnson's attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
