Fix pension system, don't delay paying it

I was disappointed to read your Oct. 24 editorial, recommending we defer pension payments for up to two years, under the presumption that we would resume contributions and make up the deficit when things were better.

Did the past decade teach us nothing? We have proven that we don't have the discipline to defer payments and make them up later, so why not fix the pension system instead?

The disconnect between when benefits are earned and costs paid put us in a chasm that is getting worse each day. The only solution is a defined contribution scheme that forces payments to match periods earned. Until this is done, we will continue to dig a deeper hole.
