Charges for woman who wouldn't leave Geneva police station
A Rolling Meadows woman was charged with aggravated battery and disorderly conduct, both felonies, after refusing to leave the Geneva police station Sunday.
She is accused of hitting a police officer and pulling a fire alarm, police said.
Erin E. Steelglove, 31, of the 2800 block of Colleen Court, was arrested by Geneva police at 2:12 a.m. Police officers were responding to a call that an intoxicated person was trying to drive home after leaving a bar in the 200 block of West State Street.
A police report stated that Steelglove was "screaming loudly" in a parking area in back of the bar, and they decided to arrest her on a charge of public intoxication. While placing handcuffs on her, Steelglove struggled against the officer, spun around, pulled a hand away and pushed him in the chest with her free hand.
Police said she "screamed profusely" throughout the booking process at the station, asked repeatedly to be released, and was alternately enraged and emotional.
Steelglove was given a city ticket for public intoxication and a state charge of resisting a peace officer. An acquaintance posted bond for her, and police told Steelglove she was free to leave.
However, she demanded to stay at the police station, walked into an open booking cell and laid down on a cell bed, according to the report. Two police officers removed her from the cell and walked her to an open exit door. But she jumped back in to the station before the door closed. She then pushed an officer in the chest. When they tried again to get her to leave, she grabbed the frame of the open door and pulled a fire alarm on a wall next to it.
Steelglove has a Dec. 1 court date.
Steelglove was previously ticketed Oct. 10 in Geneva for public intoxication.
