Less news on mega-mansions, please

During these times of thousands of layoffs and mortgage foreclosures, could we please lay off "news" articles (that aren't) showcasing multimillion dollar mega-mansions that none of your readers can afford to buy? Sunday's Neighbor headline was "Luxury Living" about a $3.5 million house in Oak Brook, and the Homes Plus section screamed "Meet Virginia" about a $2 million replica of a Virginia mansion in St. Charles.

Besides being nothing more than thinly disguised real estate ads, what do these articles prove? They're insulting to your readers when on the front page of recent editions you're also running news stories about collective outrage over excessive executive pay.

Where are stories about "green" builders of smaller, more space-efficient, materials-efficient, energy-efficient homes that the average family can actually afford to buy and live in? Or about makers of new materials, fixtures and heating / cooling systems for our existing homes?

Why aren't you seeking out and touting their work, instead of examples of the same old suburban conspicuous consumption? How about more stories that look forward to our needs for the future?
