Teens accused of beating, robbing, holding man against his will

Three Carpentersville teens with existing rap sheets face a laundry list of fresh charges Friday, stemming from a Wednesday incident in which police say they held a fourth man against his will, beat him up and robbed him.

Charged with robbery, mob action, unlawful restraint and burglary are: Bryant L. Ferguson, 19, of the 2700 block of Hopi Lane; Phillip M. Hill, 18, of the 0-100 block of Oxford Drive; and Demetrius White, 18, of the 2100 block of Tepee Avenue.

Police say it was not gang-related and the victim did not know his attackers.

According to police, the 31-year-old man, his face and clothes covered with blood, told them he parked his car in the 2100 block of Tepee at 6:38 p.m. and the trio dragged him out of the car and into a nearby garage, put him on a couch and began hitting him in the face and abdomen. One of the three men locked the garage door, took his car keys and wouldn't let him leave until he gave them some money.

The victim then called a friend, who came over to the address with $200, police said.

At that point, the men returned the car keys to the victim and told him to never speak of the incident or "he would be killed," according to a police report.

The victim left the garage and called 911.

He later discovered that $100 from his pants pocket, his car stereo/CD player, iPod, stereo amplifier and speakers were gone.

At 10:45 p.m., police executed a search warrant at the same building the victim was held captive and found Hill and White hiding inside a rear bedroom, reports said.

Police found Ferguson elsewhere in the village, Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne said.

The victim did not require medical attention, Kilbourne said.

Due to their prior criminal backgrounds, Kane County Judge Bruce W. Lester set each of the teens' bonds at $125,000, which means they need $12,500 to get out of jail. They were unable to post bond and were taken to the Kane County lockup.

Each suspect requested a speedy trial and they are all due back in court Nov. 13 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

They could spend between three and seven years in prison, if found guilty of one of the serious felony charges - robbery and burglary.
