Carpentersville man beaten with bat, kicked
A Carpentersville man was injured Thursday after a group of what police described as gang members beat him with baseball bats while walking along Robbin Road, police said.
Police Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne said the 21-year-old victim was at the intersection of Robbin and Birch Street when a van pulled up alongside him and at least five men climbed out.
The victim was knocked to the ground when one of the attackers hit him in the head with the bat, Kilbourne said. Then, the remaining men stomped, kicked, and continued to hit him with the bat for about three minutes, Kilbourne said.
The group then jumped back into the van and took off, Kilbourne said.
"The victim is unsure how many actually jumped out of the van, but he said it could have been up to five attackers," he said. "Also, the men were shouting gang slogans as they beat him."
The man was taken from the scene to a hospital where he remains in stable condition, Kilbourne said.
