New campaign launched for Jackson museum in Gary
GARY, Ind. -- A new campaign has been started to raise money for a museum honoring Michael Jackson in his Indiana hometown.
The late pop star's father, Joe Jackson, joined Gary Mayor Rudy Clay at a Las Vegas casino Wednesday for the announcement.
Clay says the city of Gary has the wherewithal, the love and the land for the Jackson Family museum and performing arts center. The mayor has written a letter to Joe Jackson promising a 10-acre site near the city's downtown convention center.
A theater chain owner presented a $10,000 check during the news conference, but no details of the museum were announced.
The Jackson family got its start in Gary, but efforts to create a museum in the city have stalled for years.
