Quinn won't say if he supports party money limits

SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn still isn't saying if he supports limiting campaign contributions from political parties and legislative leaders.

He told reporters Tuesday he wants "to put the people back in politics in Illinois and take big money out of it."

But he would not say whether that includes contribution limits on parties and leaders.

Quinn vetoed a campaign finance measure in August that reform advocates said was too weak.

Reformers want limits on how much political parties and leaders may contribute. But House Speaker Michael Madigan opposes such caps. He says they would give too much power to political action committees.

The General Assembly returns Wednesday for the final three days of its fall session. Quinn wants a revised ethics bill on his desk before lawmakers leave.
