Hanover Park police warn of scam

The Hanover Park Police Department has received numerous complaints about a scam taking place in the Tanglewood area. Residents are approached by a male and female who say their car has broken down. They ask the victim for a ride back to the car and assistance with jump starting the vehicle. Upon arrival, the suspects inform the victim that the vehicle has been towed and ask for a ride to the tow yard. They ask the victims for money and promise to repay, but then disappear. Should the victim refuse to pay, the suspects have threatened to make false allegations to the police. On one occasion, the suspects had a small child with them. Anyone with information should call Lt. Tom Cortese at (630) 372-4415.
