Spiritual Awareness day at Des Plaines library
"A Day of Spiritual Awareness: Building This Community Together" will be held at the Des Plaines Public Library from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7. Sponsored by the Des Plaines Ministerial Association, the event is free and open to the public. This year's event aims to promote awareness of the available resources in the local faith community, social service agencies and government agencies. The event features several guest speakers and also showcases 20 local spiritual and humanitarian organizations. Keynote speaker Capt. Jay Davis of the Salvation Army will speak at 10 a.m. on practical spirituality. A discussion will follow, with panelists representing the aging, the homeless and those living in or near poverty, public safety, youth and the schools. Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan also is scheduled to speak. The Des Plaines Ministerial Association holds an open meeting at noon on the second Tuesday of each month at Oakton Arms in Des Plaines.
