Danny Davis files for Cook Co. board president race

Congressman Danny Davis has filed his candidacy for Cook County Board president, but the Chicago Democrat says he hasn't decided if he'll run for congressman instead.

Davis was first elected to Congress in 1996. He has until next Monday to file a petition to run again for the post representing the 7th district, which includes downtown Chicago and some western suburbs.

If he files for that race also, he'll have until Nov. 9 to chose which race he'll pursue.

Davis says he can't make a decision until he knows what other candidates are running.

Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown, Chicago Alderman Toni Preckwinkle and Cook County Water Reclamation District President Terry O'Brien also filed for board president Monday.

Current President Todd Stroger says he's seeking re-election but hasn't officially filed.
