Quinn names new Illinois Commerce Commission member

Gov. Pat Quinn has appointed a vice president for the Illinois Association of Community Action Agencies as a new member of the Illinois Commerce Commission.

The 62-year-old John Colgan was named to the post Monday. His appointment fills a vacancy left on the five-member commission when Robert Lieberman resigned in May. It is subject to approval by the Illinois Senate.

Colgan, who lives in Springfield, is a former founding director of the Illinois Hunger Coalition. Quinn says Colgan will bring a consumer-based focus to a state commission that determines utility rates. Colgan will serve a five-year term.

Colgan says he's honored to be chosen.
