Communication is a priority for Roskam

A letter to the editor ran recently from an Elk Grove Village resident about Congressman Roskam. The congressman welcomes and appreciates critiques and criticism about his voting record and the quality of his constituent services.

He finds that type of honest feedback both helpful and productive, which is in part why he routinely holds telephone town halls, Congress on Your Corner events at local train stations and grocery stores, and a host of other public events in the district throughout the year. In fact, a sizable number of our staff work solely on constituent affairs.

Yet, this particular letter stated that the constituent had reached out to our office countless times without ever receiving a response. On the contrary, our office has actually communicated with him quite often, sending five different personal letters over the last two years in response to his concerns on matters ranging from SCHIP to the stimulus to the current health care bills.

Last year alone, we received roughly 50,000 comments and inquiries from constituents, and we made a strong effort to address each one of these with personal responses.

The Congressman respects and appreciates feedback of all kind, but our office does go to great lengths to communicate with our constituents, and respond promptly to their questions and problems.
