In plea for civility writer calls names

An amusing letter was printed in Fence Post Oct. 13 titled "Stop name-calling, listen to each other."

The writer said she "seriously doubted that civil discourse will ever return ..." Then, in this letter, she attacks various groups of people - pundits, "teabaggers" and their compatriots, and politicians - in other words, anyone who does not agree with her!

The writer went on to say she seriously doubted that "teabaggers" even know history or what socialism and communism are. Whew! Talk about name calling and condescension. The majority of tea partyers are educated patriots who know history in depth and also possess common sense.

At a recent taxpayers march on Washington, D.C., that was made perfectly clear. My husband and I also attended. I am a retired registered nurse and he is a retired physicist who designed rockets (yes, an honest-to-goodness rocket scientist and history buff), so we didn't just fall off the turnip truck.

The marchers were considerate, peaceful and well-informed about the issues. Many attended with their children. There were 0 arrests, 0 racial signs, and 0 trash left behind. The march lasted six hours.

People just kept coming. A picture doesn't give it justice because people would march to the front and then leave to give others their turn.

I have found that Tea Partyers are fair and do listen to other opinions and their concerns are with the issues. I feel it's those who refuse to even listen to another opinion or do not read any books contrary to their thinking that resort to insults and name-calling because they are not informed enough to debate civilly.
