Global warming evident in oceans

In reply to a recent letter about "Global warming doesn't measure up," the facts show that the entire planet is accumulating heat due to an energy imbalance.

Check out the Web site skepticalscience.com for yourself. The graphs shown there show that the earth consists of mostly water and that the actual heat held in the land and atmosphere mass is a small part of the whole picture. A lot of heat is held in the oceans.

Since 1950, they show that the oceans have heated up more than the land.

It is reported that an El Niño was in effect from 1998 until just a few years ago, when we swung again into a La Niña, which has a cooling effect. But still the world is warming up due to the more than 8 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases we emit every year.

Denying is old stuff. Most people are "going green" and saving "green" at the same time. And those who can afford it are spending green on newer products to help bring those costs down for all of us. We can all help. In this recession, it pays to keep your money in your pocket. Check out our Web site for more information at ecco-foxvalley.net.
