Scouting Wheeling @ Hersey

Wheeling (2-6, 0-4) at Hersey (0-8, 0-4)

When 7:30 p.m. today at Roland Goins Stadium

Last weekWheeling lost to Prospect 54-15; Hersey lost to Elk Grove 31-6

Outlook Both teams want to take a positive vibe into the offseason as Wheeling looks to end a six-game losing streak and Hersey tries to end a 12-game skid and avoid its second winless finish in three years. "It will be a fun last game and they present some problems with their speed on offense," said Hersey coach Mark Gunther. "Their young quarterback (sophomore Tyler Brady) has improved and presents some challenges running." Hersey's defense led by LB Jake Knauss and DB Taylor Beaulieu has played tough all year and they hope the return of Chris Polinski can give an offensive boost in a potential double-wildcat QB attack with Alex Vaile. "Their defense is really good," said Wheeling coach Dave Dunbar. " They just fly around and come at you and play hard all the time." Dunbar has felt the same way about his team led by the all-around consistent play of senior Matt Splon. The Wildcats were hit hard by illness with four starters out last week but expect to be closer to full strength this week. "On both sides you want to play hard and go out a winner," Dunbar said. "I think it will be a good game." Wheeling has the last three meetings of a series Hersey leads 25-16.
