Last weekMaine West d. Niles North 28-13; Highland Park d. Deerfield 22-16

Outlook The Warriors go into the season finale against the CSL North champs off a character-reinforcer where they snapped a five-game losing streak against a Niles North team that had preseason playoff aspirations. Senior Charlie Vana played a big role on both sides of the ball and had another 100-yard rushing game with junior Calvin Williams and Mike Cardamone also played a big part defensively. "It was a big win, especially against a very good program that had a tremendous year last year," said Maine West coach Chris Hare. "Just to respond was probably the biggest thing after losing on homecoming (to Maine East). To have the character to rebound is what it's all about so it was really big in that respect. One of the things we've worked on real hard is not quitting and not giving up and that definitely is prevalent." It will have to be again this week against the Giants, who opened 0-3 against unbeaten Stevenson and Maine South and 7-1 Warren for first-year coach Hal Chiodo. Running back Jordan Reisner (1,021 yards) and LB Brett Weiss have helped lead the way to a second straight division title. "Our goal is to keep on building off what we did last week and play the best we can," Hare said. Highland Park has won the last four in a series it leads 19-7 since 1979.
