Last week Elk Grove d. Hersey 31-6; BG lost to Meadows 26-19
Outlook It's the playoff for the playoffs with the winner getting in and the loser needing a lot of things to break right to have a shot at making the 256-team field. Elk Grove junior QB Nick Meyer (2,142 total yards, 26 TDs) has emerged as one of the area's most dangerous threats and has solid weapons in Matt McEnery (30 catches, 476 yards, 4 TDs) and Eddie Solorio (20 rec., 357 yards, 4 TDs) to challenge BG's defense led by two-way threats Kevin Mulligan, John Angotti and Mike Cornely and LBs Zev Katz and Dan Recht. "Our best defense is staying on the field offensively," said BG coach Jim Farrell. "Nick is a great athlete no matter what sport he's doing." The problem last week for the Bison was they only ran 10 second-half offensive plays. Mulligan (686 yards rushing, 8 TDs), Angotti, Cornely (24 catches, 436 yards, 6 TDs) and QB Mike Garrity (893 yards, 11 TDs) give the Bison plenty of options against Meyer, McEnery, Eddie Stahl and LB Kyle Pfister. "Mulligan is a very good cutback runner and he can really hurt you," said Elk Grove coach Brian Doll. "We feel our defensive speed is very good and we feel comfortable playing a running back like that." BG has won four straight meetings and leads the series 17-4.
