Scouting Antioch @ Round Lake
Antioch (4-4, 2-3) at Round Lake (0-8, 0-5)
When: 7:30 p.m.
Last week: Antioch lost to Lakes, 38-22; Round Lake lost to Stevenson, 48-6.
Skinny: On paper, odds are, Antioch will beat winless Round Lake. But will a victory do anything to improve the Sequoits' odds of making the playoffs? Probably not. With five wins, Antioch would need to qualify on playoff points and head coach Brian Glashagel is fairly certain his team won't have enough. "We've talked to the guys about it," Glashagel said. "Everyone's pretty upset about it."-Antioch isn't playing with a fully healthy squad and actually hasn't for weeks. A couple of offensive linemen and defenders are out with various injuries. Meanwhile, a few players have been lost to disciplinary issues. Combine that with the injuries and that's a snag the Sequoits were almost totally able to avoid last season in winning the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division and advancing to the Class 6A state semifinals-One consistent presence for Antioch has been fullback Steve Lorenzini. Even with a broken arm, Lorenzini has wheeled and dealed his way all over the field and has been a load to bring down. When defenses focus on Lorenzini like Lakes did last week, the Sequoits can switch right over to junior running back Josh Guadarrama and not miss a beat. He's averaging nearly 8 yards a carry this season and had 142 yards against Lakes-Round Lake sophomore quarterback Anthony Gutierrez is a dual threat. He ran for 38 yards and passed for 71 more against Stevenson last week.
