Fire game day

Fire game day

Chivas USA at Toyota Park, 7 p.m. Thursday

TV: ESPN2

Scouting Chivas USA: Chivas (13-9-6) has its playoff spot reserved, but what it doesn't know is whether it will have to settle for a wild-card spot. Chivas can still earn the Supporters' Shield also. Chivas is one of three Western Conference teams with 45 points, though it has a game in hand. Zach Thornton is a strong candidate for MLS goalkeeper of the year.

Scouting the Fire: A six-game winless streak has the Fire (10-7-12, 42 points) still looking for a playoff ticket entering its regular-season finale. Somehow, the team is still in second place in the Eastern Conference despite going 0-4-2 in the last two months, but Toronto, New England and D.C. United are all just 3 points back. Defender Wilman Conde could miss the game with the flu and a hamstring strain.

Next game: TBA pending MLS playoff selections
