Development plan gets new life in St. Charles Township

In perhaps another sign of a recovering economy, a plan to bring a new subdivision to St. Charles Township first proposed in 2004 is moving forward again.

The Preserve on Crane Road subdivision won approval, in concept, in September 2004. With some drainage issues to work out and an economy that brought almost all development to a halt, the detailed plan just received preliminary approval Tuesday by the Kane County Development Committee.

The subdivision would build 14 single-family homes on a 26-acre site on the west side of Crane Road, about one-half south of Silver Glen Road. The adjacent 40 acres to the west, which the developer also owns, will remain farmland, according to the proposal. The original idea would've created a wetland bank and open space on the property to the west, but no agency was willing to take care of the wetland bank.

An agreement with the St. Charles Park District will also create a link between the open space to the north of the subdivision and the property to the south with a land donation to the park district for a trail connection.

The preliminary plan received unanimous approval from the development committee. No neighbors showed up to speak against the proposal.
