Sox claim Marlin's lefty outfielder De Aza
The White Sox have claimed left-handed hitting outfielder Alejandro De Aza off waivers from the Florida Marlins.
De Aza, 29, spent most of the 2009 season with Class AAA New Orleans, hitting .300 (80-267) with eight home runs, 34 RBI, a .370 on-base and .506 slugging percentage in 87 games. He also played in 22 games with the Marlins last season, going 5-20 (.250) with three RBI and six runs scored.
A native of Guaymate, Dominican Republic, De Aza is a .232 (38-164) hitter in 67 major-league games with Florida in 2007 and 2009. He bats and throws left-handed.
De Aza, 5-foot-11 and 190-pounds, originally signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent in 2001. He was selected by the Marlins in the 2004 Rule 5 Draft.
