Law should apply equally to all

Steve Toye, in an Oct. 7 Fence Post letter, writes of hypocrisy from the extreme left. Hypocrisy exists in all groups and the extreme right are no exception. When President Bush was in office and someone wrote to Fence Post with civil dissent, there would be a flurry of letters telling him/her that "one does not criticize their government," calling them traitors, unpatriotic and even telling them, "If you do not like it here, you can leave."

Now that President Obama is in office, look who is doing the criticizing. (They do not practice what they preach.) There is civil dissent and civil disobedience dissent. When one does the later they should know that they can be removed and arrested. Those disrupting the town hall meetings with their screaming and shouting were doing civil disobedience and should have been removed and arrested.

Here in DuPage County, a couple of peace demonstrators exercising civil dissent were arrested on false charges, dragged through one court date after another until the case was finally dropped. The law should apply to everyone, equally and fairly, no matter what side they are on, including the extreme right.
