Man gets probation for marijuana possession
A Round Lake man was placed on probation for two years Tuesday after pleading guilty to possession of marijuana.
Cliff Lee, 23, was also fined $1,000 and ordered to perform 100 hours of public service after pleading guilty to possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Scott Hoffert said Lee, of the 200 block of Arden Drive, was driving a car in Mundelein on Dec. 28 when he made a left turn without signaling. A police officer stopped the car and ordered all three occupants out of the vehicle when he smelled marijuana inside the vehicle.
The officer discovered four bags of marijuana weighing a total of just about four ounces in a panel inside the passenger door, Hoffert said.
The two other men in Lee's car were not charged, Hoffert said, because Lee told police the marijuana was his and they were not aware it was in the car.
Lee could have been sentenced to up to five years in prison if he had been convicted after a trial.
