Warren picks up postseason win

Warren's boys soccer team rallied for regional-opening win Tuesday.

After spotting ninth-seeded Waukegan a 1-goal lead, the eighth-seeded Blue Devils scored twice in each half en route to a 4-1 win at Mundelein.

Warren (12-6-3) advances to Saturday's 1 p.m. Class 3A regional final against No. 1 Palatine at Mundelein.

John Trout's goal off an assist from Brandon Brown in the 35th minute pulled Warren even. Michael Hanackek then scored in the 38th minute, with Ruben Gaytan assisting, to give the Blue Devils the lead.

Zack Nitch (Thiago Ganancio assist) and Gaytan (Danny Szczepanek assist) had second-half goals. Keeper Brady Walsh made 13 saves for the Blue Devils.

Lake Zurich 7, Dundee-Crown 1: At Lake Zurich, the top-seeded Bears got 2 goals and an assist from Marquette-bound Eric Pothast, as they cruised in their Class 3A regional opener.

Brenden Seeger, Nick Janus, Tim Kreutz, Brett Harper and Jose Corral also scored for Lake Zurich (16-4), which plays in Saturday's 6 p.m. regional final against Barrington, a 2-1 winner over Cary-Grove.

Kreutz added 2 assists, while Janus and Harper also assisted on goals. Tyler Raineri made 3 saves in goal for the Bears.

Antioch 6, Kaneland 0: At Kaneland, Oscar Segura had 2 goals and 2 assists to pace the Sequoits in their Class 2A regional semifinal.

Fourth-seeded Antioch (15-6) plays in Friday's 4 p.m. regional final against the winner of today's game between No. 5 Crystal Lake Central and No. 12 Wauconda.

Andre Sippy, Jake Jost, Robert Nogle and Dave Mrnak also scored for the Sequoits. Nogle, Billy Mohr and Ryan Geidner added assists. Alex Grimm made 4 saves in goal in earning the shutout.

Lake Forest 2, Glenbrook S. 0: At Hersey, Sam Moore and Cameron Offer scored for the fifth-seeded Scouts, who play in Saturday's 3 p.m. regional championship game against the host Huskies in Arlington Heights. Hersey was a 3-0 winner over Buffalo Grove.

Wheaton Academy 3, Grayslake Central 0: At Grayslake Central, the 17th-seeded Rams saw their season come to the end.

Tim Daniels had 2 goals and an assist for top-seeded Wheaton Academy.

Grayslake Central finished 5-17.
