Royko's son gets 30 months for failed bank robbery

A son of the late newspaper columnist Mike Royko has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for attempted bank robbery.

Robert Royko could have been sent to prison for more than five years. The minimum under federal guidelines was just over three years, but the 45-year-old Royko got a break.

Judge Wayne Andersen said pharmaceutical drugs Royko took contributed to the April 2005 incident in which he walked into a bank with a fake bomb and demanded money. A police officer knocked the device out of his hand and arrested him.
