Cook County still waiting to schedule swine flu vaccination

Cook County health officials were still waiting Monday for their first shipment of vaccines against the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu.

The vaccines were expected sometime this week.

Once received, the Cook County Department of Public Health will announce a series of vaccinations at sites around the county.

The county has set the first in a series of student vaccinations at schools for Palatine Elementary School District 15, with schools in Palatine ZIP codes getting clinics Oct. 29 and 30. The schools will have informational meetings for parents at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Winston Campus, 900 E. Palatine Road in Palatine.

Elsewhere, DuPage County Monday began making appointments for vaccinations Oct. 22 through Nov. 8. Kane County has scheduled vaccinations starting Oct. 26.

The Lake County Health Department scheduled its walk-in-only free vaccinations for the public Thursday, Oct. 29, through Sunday, Nov. 1.

McHenry County is giving nasal spray vaccines to health and emergency workers, but waiting to set vaccinations for the public.
