Man critically injured in Aurora fight

A 26-year-old Chicago man was critically injured trying to break up a weekend fight at an Aurora apartment complex.

Police said they are holding a 24-year-old Aurora man they believe is responsible for injuring the victim, but the unidentified suspect has not yet been charged with any crimes.

Police officials said the Chicago man was injured at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday when he and a friend attempted to break up a fight between the Aurora man and his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend inside an apartment complex hallway on the 800 block of North Lake Street. Police said the suspect slammed the victim's head into the floor causing the injuries. The suspect fled the scene, but turned himself into police Sunday afternoon.

The Chicago man was airlifted to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries after receiving initial treatment at an Aurora hospital Saturday.
