Scouting Hersey @ Elk Grove

Hersey (0-7, 0-3) at Elk Grove (4-3, 1-2)

When: 7:30 p.m. today at Robert Haskell Stadium

Last week Hersey lost to BG 21-0; Elk Grove lost to Prospect 33-26

Outlook Elk Grove looks to bounce back from consecutive losses to Meadows and Prospect to keep its hopes alive of making the playoffs for the first time since 2004. But the Grens and QB Nick Meyer (1,828 total yards, 23 TDs) know it won't be easy against the Huskies' defense led by LB Jake Knauss, DL Grant Reed and DB Taylor Beaulieu. "Everybody has said it but Hersey at 0-7 has probably played one of the toughest schedules of anybody," said Elk Grove coach Brian Doll. "They've been able to play everybody pretty tough." The Huskies did again last week, trailing BG 7-0 into the fourth quarter. But Chris Polinski is questionable after spraining his ankle in his first game at QB last week so Alex Vaile and Brandon Klein may get the call this week. Linemen Adam Wolotowsky and Kevin Thomson have also been battling illness in what has been a recurring theme. "I thought our defense played extremely well," said Hersey coach Mark Gunther. "It's more a story of the same - we need to help out offensively and get them off the field." Hersey won last year in a series Elk Grove leads 14-10.
