Boom goes Bonahoom as Prospect rolls

The halftime homecoming fireworks at Wheeling High School weren't enough for Prospect's Peter Bonahoom.

The junior put together a spectacle of his own on the football field Friday night, scoring a career-high 6 touchdowns to lead the Knights past the Wildcats 54-15 in Mid-Suburban East play.

Four of Bonahooms touchdowns came on the ground, where he totaled 113 yards. He also caught 2 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. In the third quarter, Bonahoom returned a fumble 16 yards for his sixth and final score of the game.

After his record-setting 353 yards rushing a week ago, Bonahoom has proven to be yet another force to be reckoned with on the Knights' offense.

"Wow," Prospect coach Brent Pearlman said of Bonahoom. "Peter's a pretty special kid. I think with Miles (Osei) on the team, people overlook Pete. But I think Pete and Miles are pretty similar players. Each is capable of a big play at any time."

But Bonahoom downplayed his success.

"I just seemed to get lucky tonight, I don't even know what it was," Bonahoom said. "We were joking on the sideline every time we had a chance to score, I was getting the ball."

It was a must-win game for the Knights (7-1, 3-1), who can still earn a share of the MSL East crown with a win over undefeated Rolling Meadows (6-2, 4-0) next week.

"Not to downplay the division, but we haven't talked about the division lately," Pearlman said. "We're just trying to get better as a team. We've got the playoffs coming up and we want to try and be a better team in the playoffs than we are right now."

Osei threw for 305 yards on 13-of-18 passing and rushed for a 3-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Wheeling quarterback Tyler Brady (106 yards rushing) and running back Weston Ross (50) each ran for a 2-yard touchdown.
