Give our president a chance to succeed

Fellow Boomers,

Don't be fooled by the political gamesmanship surrounding President Obama. When was the last time we saw a person like him in our highest public office? If you think back, and remember, it was probably JFK.

He was young, passionate and intelligent. JFK was like a breath of fresh air in the stodgy halls of government. We were enchanted.

Is Barack Obama any different? Didn't John ask us what we could do for our country? And, weren't we ready to sacrifice?

Mr. Obama seems to be earning the money we pay him. Why stay with the traditional stuff we have come to despise about politics?

Regrettably, I didn't vote for the guy - but why not let him make some changes? He seems honest enough to me.

And did anybody else feel humiliated when the President was called a liar on national television? I was deeply ashamed as I watched the President flinch in visible hurt from that self-serving outburst of Representative Wilson. That was an unpardonable breach of civility and etiquette. We weren't brought up that way. We should not allow such demonstrations to represent our culture to the rest of the world.

Let's trust this president and see what happens. He did not bring us to the place we are. But he seems to want to tackle problems. When was the last time we saw someone in his position that wanted to take on the really tough issues that nobody else seemed to want to fix? What's that say about the man?

He will not undo the Republic.

It's bigger than any of us.

R. Kent Clark
