Free health screens Saturday in St. Charles
Health care providers from across the Tri-Cities are teaming up Saturday to offer free medical screenings and related services to the public.
Among the offerings at the 6th Annual Tri-City Health Fair are screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV, diabetes and skin cancer. Visitors also can learn about aging, addiction, cancer prevention and hospice programs and medical offices in the area.
"In this economy, the fair is particularly important," said Shannon Watson, executive director of the Tri-City Health Partnership in St. Charles. "For those without health insurance, or with limited financial resources, it may be the one time a year that many local residents have the opportunity to access an array of health care services in one place at no cost."
The fair, sponsored by the partnership, the Salvation Army, and Geneva's Delnor Hospital, is from 9 a.m. to noon at the Salvation Army, 1710 S. Seventh Ave., St. Charles. Anyone can attend.
Participants include the Kane County Health Department, Community Crisis Center, the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, Tri City Family Services and Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice, among others.
In addition, Watson said, seasonal flu and pneumonia vaccinations will be available for purchase, starting at $20. Medicare will be accepted.
