'America's Outdoor Show' schedule for visit to Rosemont in January

Well, it's official: There will be an outdoors show at the Donald Stephens Convention Center in January.

The new show promoter is in town lining up key players and exhibitors for a five-day event in Rosemont.

You can expect some new surprises for both adults, families and kids.

As reported previously, the Rosemont gathering, formally known as the Chicagoland Outdoors Show is under the guidance and stewardship of promoter Jim Sugarman. The new name of next January's extravaganza is "America's Outdoor Show."

And now: On to the fall fishing report.

Button up your overcoat when the wind blows like an unwanted winter visitor at this early autumn stage.

Fox Chain: Look for excellent crappie action on Bluff Lake at 15-foot depths. The same holds true for Lake Marie, but at 20 feet. Walleye action has just started in earnest on Channel Lake with trollers using crankbaits to dig fish out from some of the deeper holes. Bluegill activity is very good on Nippersink Bay as well as in deeper spots on Pistakee Lake.

Fox River: Try a canoe to reach the shallows right off the deeper pools near Algonquin for smallmouth.

Forest Preserves: It's rainbow trout time again. In Cook County the usual spots will be available, like Belleau and Axehead Lakes. In DuPage County, Deep Quarry is a top spot, but Silver Lake is also open for trout anglers.
