Let's ensure future for history center

Since 1943, the Geneva History Center has preserved the history of our community and educated our citizens. From humble origins, we have grown into a major museum, attracting a record 28,000 visitors last year, staging major exhibitions and presenting more than 70 programs for children and 58 for adults and families. For this work, we have received statewide and national recognition, placing the Geneva History Center in the top 1 percent of Illinois museums.

Given this tremendous growth, many may be surprised to learn that we are struggling financially. The current economic climate has substantially cut into our sources of income. Donations are down, our endowment has suffered losses and competition grows more fierce for dwindling grants. We need to find new ways to raise $150,000 per year to meet budget shortfalls.

Our board and staff are deeply committed to establishing a firm foundation for this critical institution. In the coming months, we will use a variety of public forums to explain the Geneva History Center's value to the community and seek public input to help us overcome our challenges. I invite your input and welcome your support.
