Round Lake Beach man gets probation for phone threat

A Round Lake Beach man was placed on probation for two years Wednesday after he admitted leaving a threatening phone message for a man he had been ordered not to contact.

Lake County Associate Judge George Bridges also ordered Jeffrey Nixon, 34, to perform 200 hours of community service after accepting his guilty plea to felony telephone harassment.

Assistant State's Attorney Marykay Foy said Nixon, of the 1400 block of Elm Street, had been charged with misdemeanor assault for threatening a man currently dating Nixon's ex-girlfriend.

Nixon appeared in court on that charge Aug. 31, Foy said, and was told by the judge he could have no contact with the man while the case was pending.

But on Sept. 7, Foy said, Nixon left a three-minute phone message for the man that contained several threats.

Nixon could have faced up to three years in prison if he had been convicted after a trial, Foy said.
